I’m not sure if that’s even correct; ma conaissance de la langue francaise deviene plus nul chaque jour (see what I mean?). Anyway, I’m home now so it probably won’t be of any use for another year or so. Je viens de passer une cinquaine (ou “deux semaines”, since I’m not sure if that’s correct either) au sud de (la?) France, pres de Bordeaux. C’etait trop chaud.
I’m still relatively happy; this is just a little clean-up post. I haven’t blogged since before the World Cup final, which I saw in France, so this is the first opportunity I’ve had to say that I got it right from the outset and had tipped the Italians before the tournament. Granted, I suggested that Totti would have to hit form, which he never did, but they won regardless. The only thing I got wrong was the dissappointing early exit of the Chech team. I think that was all anyway, besides Brazil and England being crap, which was a bit of a surprise for everyone.
Staying with football, WOO-FUCKING-HOO, Roma are in the Champions League next year, certain to receive plenty of money from that competition, and hopefully even more from renegotiated television rights for Seria A. Apparently they’re in the hunt for David Trezeguet too. Horah! I bought the French sports daily l’Equip every day for the last two weeks to keep track on the Calcio drama, so such excellent news did not escape my attention. Looks like it could well be a dead heat between the giallorossi and Inter next year, what with AC Milan starting with a 15 point deduction. If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, it’s probably best to ignore this paragraph.
I suppose I ought to say something about the Middle East too, since I’m here. I’m not sure what exactly Israel is hoping to achieve at the moment, but I don’t like how they’re going about it. Their behaviour clearly isn’t intended to retrieve their captured soldiers. While I can accept that they have a right, or even a duty, to defend their citizens, Olmert’s government aren’t making them any safer by indiscriminately killing Lebanese civilians and destabalizing the region. The suggestion that he’s acting tough to show that he’s got balls sounds plausible, but to most people, I imagine, he’s just demonstrating that he’s an asshole. An interesting article in the Guardian which I read suggested that Israel has no intention of seeking a mutually agreeable settlement with the Palistinians, and instead would much rather impose a final border, since it believes it can keep more land that way. This would certainly explain the rationale behind their land-grabbing defense wall and their over-reaction to Hizbullah’s attack on military personnel, thus harding attitudes in the region just at a time when the P.A.’s President Mahmoud Abbas was gaining the upper-hand on Hamas, who also seek to resolve the Israeli-Palistinian conflict through strength of arms and terror.
So that’s it for the moment. I may return to blogging frequently in the coming weeks. Sorry about the spelling mistakes (I’m sure there are a few), but I’ve no spell-checker on this yet. A bientot.

You know for a while there I was afraid if you didn’t come back soon, this blog would become as barren as mine. Curse my poor poor constantly-crashing internet connection.
