US Republican Senator Ted Stevens & Net Neutrality

Some information on the single greatest threat to teh internets as we know and love it, Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens. Here’s the ED entry on him, and here’s Jon Stewart’s take on the situation:

    is this still going on?i thought the bill hadn’t gained muster and had died a death??

    The video’s a little old, so maybe there have been some developments since, but I think that, generally speaking, the Republicans are wholey committed to ramming a bill through that will destroy net neutrality.

    as in things will stay the same and there will be no net nutrality?was it the democrats actually wanted that bill?

    I have been following the issue closely as I work with an organization, the Hands Off the Internet coalition, opposed to net neutrality regualtions. The current status is that Senator Stevens telecomm bill (without a net neutrality amendment) is stalled.

    A net neutrality amendment is unecessary. The internet already has tiers and traffic is treated differently. Why should an email be given the same priority as VOIP, IPTV, or emergency services information.
