OMG Somebody Shot W!!!11!!!

I’m just after watching a documentary about it on More4, called ‘Death of a Presdent’. It seems it happened in Chicago…

Joking aside, I was genuinely impressed by the film, which is one of the highlights of the forthcoming Cork Film Festival. It’s very well done, and not all that unbelieveable. Strangely, I was a little moved by it all. I mean, say what you will about Bush, but he does seem like a decent enough guy even if you don’t agree with him much. I don’t have a lot of time for Rummy, and Cheney seems like a prize asshole, but I think Bush at least tries to do what he believes is right, even if it is in fact wrong. Needless to say though, good intentions are not enough to make you a good President.

Perhaps the most terrifying scenario forwarded by the film is that of Dick Cheney ascending to the Presidency, a position he would most likely exploit to start more wars in order to further line the Haliburton coffers (well, maybe he would, I’m not certain of that, although I know he’d probably be even less likely than Bush to push through environmental legislation). And of course, were he to die (either via another assassination or ripe old age), then the role of President would fall to Senator Ted Stevens, who would surely then destroy teh internets for us all with his new powers.

The real thrust of the film was the dangers of the negative ways in which America could conceiveably respond to such an event, namely the further rolling back of civil liberties by expanding the Patriot Act and the scapegoating of a likely perpetrator. The unusual narrative style of the film meant that it made its points in an original enough manner and hence avoided the overly ‘preachy’ nature of so many other political films.

In other news, Google bought YouTube today. In a clever journalistic device, I now seemlessly intertwine my two news items by posting a YouTube video of Jon Stewart mocking Dick Cheney. Enjoy.

Saw the first half. Didn’t like it. Went to make tea instead.

Really? Didn’t you think that the clips involving Bush were at least well done? How did they do the bit with Cheney speaking at W’s funeral? Granted, the long range shots would be simple enough, but I can’t work out how they did the rest.

Yeah, it was More4 laast night at 9, Sky Digital channel 142. I’ve no idea how they got hold of it, but they did.

Cheney speaking at Bush’s funeral was dubbed by a voice actor. I noticed when he ‘said’ the name George Bush, his lips were saying something else. Convincing voice though.
