Obama and Clinton in ‘08

Posted on November 13, 2006 - Filed Under Politics |

Here’s an interesting piece from the Washinton Post about Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s prospects for the Presidency in 2008. It’s going to be fascinating seeing who eventually wins the nomination. I’m still hoping Al Gore pulls it off and saves the world more or less single-handedly, but it’s looking increasingly likely that we’re all doomed. On the matter of Obama and Clinton, I think that a joint bid is likely, with Clinton running for President and Obama for Vice-President, if only because of Obama’s relative lack of experience. Then, if they win, it’s plain sailing for 16 years of Democratic control of the White House, with two terms each provided they utilise the power of encumbency and don’t run the country into the ground.

However, winning the presidency will be another matter, and if there was ever a politician made for leading the USA’s War on Terror, then in my opinion it’s Arizona Senator John McCain. One thing’s for sure though, whoever the next US President is, they’ll be far better than W.

Fuck… reading that back sounds terrible. It’s like an opinion piece from the Sunday Tribune. I better shape up, especially with mammoth essays due this week (not literally essays on mammoths, lol… god I suck…).

An essay on mammoths would be cool. I want a mammoth module…

Also, McCain would get elected, the problem is that the Republicans won’t ever nominate him as they see him as too much of a moderate. The right’s equivalent to Joe Lieberman.

I wouldn’t be too sure of that. The Republicans may resort to pragmatism in order to keep the White House, and McCain isn’t the liberal Republican that his Daily Show appearances would suggest. His biggest problem may be his position on Iraq. As a former soldier he obviously knows what he’s talking about, but his idea that thhe US needs to send more troops will not go down well with voters.

I think it would be better the other way around, with Obama as President and Clinton as VP.
