Technical Problem
Posted on November 30, 2006 - Filed Under Tech |
My PC won’t read the disk for a game of mine. It has difficulty reading some others too, although it reads most of them perfectly well. I’ve tried cleaning the game disk, but if anything that’s only made matters worse and created small scratches on it. Is there some way of cleaning your disk drive without dismantling your PC? I don’t think the problem lies with the CD; I only bought it recently. Help will be appreciated.

How old is the cd drive? Aside from cleaning problems, it may also be that the drive can’t read the kind of disk. If it’s a DVD-ROM and a normal CD drive that won’t work. Another problem could just be that the disk is faulty.
However, if it is a problem with dirt, I don’t actually know if you can clean the cd drive while still attached to the machine, to be honest I doubt it, however I’ll consult a more technology-wise friend of mine and get back to you.
There are very simple and basic cd-cleaning kits out there in places like argos and virgin.
Consists of a cd shaped disk that has tiny little brushes and then there’s a special type of liquid and such. Same idea as an old vhs tape-head cleaner.
