Personality Disection

So after an evening’s drinking I found myself at Winning’s house the other night, where some asshole took it upon himself to explain to me some of my flaws. For one thing, apparently I don’t really speak the way I always speak, that is to say, my measured style of speech is a sham, something I fake. Quite how this guy who I’d never met before felt he knew me well enough to make such an assertion is beyond me, but he made it nonetheless, despite the testimonies of others to the contrary.

Another count on which I was subject to criticism was my apparel. It seems that wearing clothes anything less than one year old is now frowned upon. Also, buttoning your jacket when it’s cold is equally contemptible; no added insulation can be derivied from such a practice, no matter what a basic knowledge of physics might tell you.

The fact that I still live at home, something that was somehow deduced from my appearance, was also criticised. To my mind, the decision of whether to live at home or in student accommodation while attending college in your home town is a matter for each individual. Anyone who considers the matter seriously will make some kind of mental cost-benefit analysis, and choose whichever option is more advantageous, which in my case is the option to reside in my nice, big, warm house where there is good food served and I don’t have to keep a part-time job to maintain my existence.

I might have taken these criticisms to heart, but, coming as they did from a 28 year-old English and Art History student, I did the sensible thing and disregarded them one and all.

I’m sorry by the way, I should have put a stop to that. He really was an asshole. Actually, I’d say walking around a house party mocking quiet drunks while pretending “you’re just having a laugh” could well be the defintion of an asshole.

There’s people like that all over the place. I used let them get to me, I stopped doing so. But I don’t even need to tell you to ignore them, you already are :)

How goes study? Ready for Wednesday?

Wait? Who was this asshole? And how come he was in MY house? Fuck sake, some of the company we keep these days are such knob-ends it makes me pro choice.

Thanks for the show of support, but it’s unnecessary.

The guy’s name was Ray, I think.

Ray Burke? He can be an asshole when he’s drunk. My apologies.

The quality of your friends has really gone downhill lately Eoin. This is the problem with befriending everyone: Most people don’t deserve it. Hell, most don’t even deserve contempt.
