An animal rights campaigner who protested *against* this, on hearing about Knut's story said something to the effect that if they were to go by the logic of this other German Zoo, Knut should be put down. The quote was siezed on and distorted by some German rag and evolved into the current story, which as I said, is apparently a load of bollox.
