Two heartfelt tributes to the departed fat man by Christopher Hitchens.

“If you gave Falwell an enema he could be buried in a matchbox.” Haha, eat it Fox News! Expert IRL trolling from Hitchens…

Ok,that man was an arsehole and some of his stuff (support Isreali’s yet also being racist) but to suggest that he ‘woke up every morning and thought - I’ve gotten away with it again’??Bit absurd..

Hitchens is a bit of an arse too… His points are good but he does come across as ‘the evil atheist’

Though I do hate the idea that because someone is dead ‘we need to respect them’. ‘Saying I’m sorry because he’s dead’ even though he isn’t is fair enuff though…

I agree that Hitchens was very rude, particularly towards the end when he started mentioning Jack Abramof and insulting all concerned with abandon, but it was still very funny.

He does take his atheism to extreme degrees, it must be admitted. In the past he’s criticised Mother Theresa and even His Holiness himself, the Dalai Lama.

Do you think he was a little drunk during the Fox appearance? I know he has a slightly drunken manner anyway, but he seems a little more groggy than usual.

thats just going to make them beat their bibles even harder now. Good strategic move.
Hes as bad as the fat man to be honest. I wouldnt hold anyone who needs to make his point by calling the dude fat in much esteem, however true what he’s saying may be.

He’s certainly impolite, but you have to give him some credit for going on Fox News, owning Sean Hannity and ridiculing a darling of the American Religious Right.

Excellent :) I was hoping you’d seen this (Hitchins).

Yes he is relatviely extreme in the way he expresses himself (I’m not willing to say his views are in themselves extreme) but perhaps such is the only way to counteract the tactis of the far-right. Sinking to their level is a danger certainly, but I do believe it can be done in such a way as to make the case for secular humanism in a much more assertive and confident manner without resorting to the same kind of methods of Fox and Friends.

With that said, he could have perhaps conducted himself in a less rude manner. For a perfect example of an Atheist who gets his point across without being rude see Richard Dawkins.

Exactly. Dawkins comes across a bit of a ’stuffed shirt intellectual’ but at least he isn’t an ass. And,have you ever watched ‘Penn and Teller;Bullshit’? Find it on tv-links.co.uk and go to the episode marked ‘holier than thou’. It points out why mother Threasa and The Dali Lama are assholes….

The Dalai Lama is not an asshole; he’s a wonderful human being. So what if he supported India, a country that took him in when he was exiled, acquiring nuclear weapons? Big deal.

…Is there even such a thing as a Buddhist extremist?*

*not some crazy person/faction who just happens to be Buddhist

Dawkins is an arrogant little toad devoid of personality. Hitchens any day of the week.

Mother Theresa was an evil little witch according to that Penn and Teller piece. Her “I don’t expect you to talk, I expect you to die” attitude to the poor and sick was shocking. I was so angered that I forced myself not to laugh at the ragmag jokes about her and hitler and that amazing word.
