Probably Day 9

We arrived in Shanghai this moring on an overnight train from Xi’an that lasted about 17 hours. We’re going to see the mighty Giant Panda tomorrow morning in Shanghai zoo. Generally I avoid zoos, but I really want to see Pandas, who deserve capitialisation because they’re so damn awesome.
It’s overcast and lashing rain here, but you can still see futher than in the two more northerly cities we’re already visited, Beijing and Xi’ an. The smog doesn’t cloak Shanghai in the same way it does elsewhere. Maybe it’s the river’s presence that helps matters.
We saw the Terracotta Warriors while in Xi’ an. They were quite amazing, particularly considering their age. It drove home how ahead of the game the Chinese were for such a long time. I might turn into a Sinophile were it not for annoying little things like having to wait for ten minutes, while your passport is scanned repeatedly and your visa details recorded, in order to ride the internets for an hour.
Time for some NIN. You can watch too. Oh teh irony…
