Nine Inch Nails at Bud Rising

I’ll post about it while it’s still mildly current. Basically, NIN were awesome, but the crowd weren’t into them at all. Trent (Reznor, the singer/writer) said in an interview recently that seeing the band as a supporting act or at a festival is quite different to seeing them at one of their own shows, and this gig certainly bore that out. It would be hard to envisage worse conditions under which to see them (daytime, in front of Foo Fighters fans, beset by technical problems, in a less-than-half-full out-door setting). I still love the band as much as ever, but I’m just a bit annoyed that the first time I saw them was in a supporting role, where they seemed happy to play to the Foo Fighters’ fans (there was a noticeable preponderance of early, faster material in the set-list). Here’s hoping Trent makes good on his pledge to return, and not as a support act.
‘Head like a Hole’, from Wednesday. Aaron (North, guitarist) vents his frustrations (such as his guitar cutting out more than once during the set) at the end. You can’t see it so well here, but he smashed it up beyond repair.

Where was the gig on? Looks like where Metallica played last year…
Marley Park. It’s a pretty good place for an out-door concert, even though it is far removed from the city centre.
