Staunton Fired

At last!

According to this BBC News story Liam Brady is interested in the job, although David O’Leary is the current favourite to replace the hapless Staunton. Either would be a vast improvement, but I’d hate to see Brady take charge, solely because it would probably mean the end of his role as a RTÉ pundit. O’Leary was an alright-to-good manager during his premiership tenures, so he should at least be able to make a better fist of the job than ‘Stan’, who will be fortunate if he ever manages a team again.

Brady has himself to blame for being mentioned in the story; during RTÉ’s coverage of the Man Utd-Kiev match Bill O’Herlihy asked him would he consider the job, were he offered it. He said yes but then spent the next few minutes dodging questions on the topic. I think he’d be a pretty good choice but as he’s more used to working with individual players rather than getting results it mightn’t work out.

It would be a shame if he left Arsenal too, considering that he’s in some way responsible for all the great young players that the club churns out. Right now I like to see Martin Jol get it, but I don’t know if he’d accept it. My guess is that he wouldn’t.
