Announcement

This plan is yet in its infancy, but as of a few hours ago I fully intend to apply to the CAO in the coming days so that I may begin a law degree in UCC next year. I’m not sure if that’s even possible, given that I’m committed to finishing my Arts degree next semester, but if it can be done then I’m doing it.
And yes, you were all right. I’ve had my little rebellion, and now it’s time to grow up.
By spending three more years in college.
Great idea, or the greatest idea?

you cant apply through the CAO if you have a degree. You need post grad entry i believe. If you were to apply via cao, youd need to drop out of arts.
Everything that Eoin said:Also, if you finished your first degree and were able to do the work you could just sit the bar exams.. Just apply for blackhall place.. There’s no need to go all the way through 3/4 more years of college..
Ok, I’ll apply to do law as a post-grad degree then. Do you have any idea who I apply to? Is it UCC?
Even if there’s no need to spend three more years in college, that’s exactly what I want to do. I feel like I’ve completely wasted my time in UCC, so I want to go back and do it all again, but this time do it properly.
Well you can apply to UCC (I think) but as far as I know ‘all roads lead to Blackhall’ or one of the similar institutions (to rob a phrase) … hate to say it but the career guidance people may be of some use…:P
As for the ‘3more years’ thing.. Well I’m not sure I’d be able to do the whole undergrad ‘thing’ again, especially not in a way that you seem to mean it - I mean, can you really go and hang out with a load of ‘kids’ after a certain point? Or have you this problem scouted?
A BA in Politics and Philosophy is a pretty good basis for doing Law. But if you were to apply to Blackhall (do you want to do this?) you’d more than likely be edged out of a place by those with Law degrees. My advice would be to do a diploma in Law of some sort, and also to get professional experience working in your Dad’s office. As far as I know, the only way to do a Bachelor’s degree at this stage would be to resit your Leaving Cert. Don’t do that.
I wouldn’t have to resit it;, I got enough points the first time around.
As for hanging out with kids, most of my friends will still be in UCC for at least another 2 years, and besides, I’m still only 21. I’m sure I’ll feel more than ready to leave college by the time I finish it if I do end up doing it, but right now I don’t feel like that at all.
Free fees only apply to your first degree, any subsequent degrees you pay full fees.
As the lads say, you don’t need a law degree to practise law, but you do need to pass the exams and be an apprentice for 2-3 years.
What harm in doing a masters in law.. .I know the criminal law lecturer if you want to ask her about ideas…
It could be worse. I’ve known since first year exactly what I want to do in terms of my further education.
I have about three or four years to come to terms with the prospects (or lack thereof) of life as an unemployed doctor of philosophy.
