Palestine & Israel / John McCain Endorsement

Posted on March 6, 2008 - Filed Under American Politics, International Politics |

I’m currently writing an essay in which I’ve been asked to “discuss the Palestinian refugee problem” in 1,500 words, which somehow doesn’t seem like quite enough. However, it’s surprisingly easy to summarize the whole business in 4 words: the Palestinians got screwed.

I kind of knew much of the background to this sorry chapter in world history already, but reading up on it really drives home the absolutely off-the-scales levels of injustice involved in this case. The initially proposed borders were unfairly devised to begin with as they apportioned most of the fertile and economically important land to the Jewish state, and the subsequent grand fraud of land and ethnic cleansing (in the sense of forced, and it most certainly was forced, displacement) of the 1948 war is unconscionable.

I ought to spare my enthusiasm for the essay, so that’s all I’ll rant about for now. Better to vent my anger here than in an essay conclusion.

True to form, Israel is in the news again for throwing its weight around at the Palestinians’ expense.

Slightly related: just look at this wanker that John McCain is “very honoured” to be endorsed by:

Obama caught hell over Louis Farrakhan’s endorsement, despite Obama emphatically rejecting it and denouncing Farrakhan, and yet it look as though McCain’s going to get a pass on this.

And while we’re on the subject of Obama’s opponents getting passes, where the hell are the Clintons’ goddamn tax returns?

Well you know,he needs the religious crazy endorsements and as for Hillary and Barack - while yes, I can see them both being better Obama is starting to get questioned a lot more so while that lasts Hillary’s probably safe…
