An Article About Why The Economist Sucks

Written by James Fallows of The Atlantic in 1991. I’m not saying I endorse Fallows’ criticism, but it’s worth a read if you’re rather fond of the august publication, as I am. I happened across the piece in this Mathew Yglesias post in which he defends the magazine/newspaper from some of its shriller critics, likening it to
… a well-traveled, reasonably witty cousin who voyaged around the world with a good eye for detail and a personality marred by a strange obsession with labor market deregulation and pension privatization (or, as he calls it, “privatisation”).
