Worst Song Ever

Or at least the least-wanted song ever. It combines all the statistically least appealing aspects of music into a 25-minute piece. It’s funny in places.

30 Seconds to Mars

They’re a triumph of style over substance at times, but I still like them. This is perhaps the best video of theirs that I’ve seen so far. It was shot in the Arctic, and it looks much nicer in higher resolution.

You might recognise the singer, Jared Leto, as the blond guy from Fight Club. Other [...]

Hitchhike for Peace Results in Death

Posted on April 12, 2008 - Filed Under News Item | 1 Comment

A sad, ironic, and wholly unsurprising story:

An Italian woman artist who was hitch-hiking to the Middle East dressed as a bride to promote world peace has been found murdered in Turkey.
The naked body of Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, 33, known as Pippa Bacca, was found in bushes near the city of Gebze on Friday.
She had [...]

The Economist on How to Make the Most of a Summit

Another excellent article from the website.

If there is a formal dinner, scout out the seating arrangements first. If you have been put next to someone boring, quietly switch your name card to somewhere more interesting. If you get caught, claim to be looking for the loo, or the exit.
Finally, try a bit of mischief to [...]

Heavens

Heavens is a side-project of Matt Skiba’s, the guitarist and main vocalist in Alkaline Trio. This song is called ‘Patent Pending’, which is also the name of their debut album. I like them, but I was always going to like them since I’m a big fan of Alkaline Trio.

Goddamnit

Goddamnit is Alkaline Trio’s first album. It was reissued recently, and I like it very much, so this is a plug for it. The song in the video is called ‘Trouble Breathing’. I don’t care if you like it or not, so keep your ‘this is so shit’-type comments to yourself.

“Athens Trent Boland” Redux

This NYTimes article on awful names caught my eye, given my recent musings on the subject of names for a child that I never want to have. The article itself is entertaining enough, but the comments are where the funniest names are to be found. “Dick Blower” and “Boner Stayhard Evermore” are among the more [...]

Arsenal and Liverpool

Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal. Liverpool win 5-3 on aggregate.
It was a great match, so it’s a shame that the result casts a pall over my memories of it. It was exciting, had plenty of goals, and both teams gave it their all. In fairness to Liverpool, they didn’t resort to kicking lumps out of Arsenal like [...]

Animal Celebrity

Germany’s celebrity polar bear Knut has triggered a new controversy by fishing out 10 live carp from his moat and killing them in front of visitors.
Critics say Berlin Zoo should not have put live fish inside Knut’s enclosure. But German media report that the carp were put there to eat up algae.
There is speculation that [...]

Athens Trent Boland

Posted on April 8, 2008 - Filed Under Funny, Life-In-General | 7 Comments

I don’t plan on ever having kids, but the one good thing about having them, as far as I can see, would be coming up with cool names for them. So if I had a son I’d call him Athens Trent Boland, because that’s an awesome name. If I had a daughter I’d leave my [...]
