GAMSAT Result

Posted on May 13, 2008 - Filed Under College |

I got 65, which according to some helpful chart places me in around the top 5% of all applicants who took the test. So I kicked its ass. And so I can probably do that graduate medicine course if I so wish, provided I don’t totally screw up my summer exams. So now I’m faced with the choice of doing a MA in Politics or a taking a graduate degree in Medicine. I’m leaning towards the first option at this point, but I don’t want to rule out a career as Dr. Boland the psychiatrist just yet. So yay for me.

There are official ACER sample papers that you can order, which are pretty helpful. I don’t have a science background, so I ordered some GAMSAT preparation guide over the internet, but I’m slow to recommend it to others because it was ridiculously expensive and you can find the information in it elsewhere. If you don’t have a science background it might be useful to pick of a basic biochemistry review, or something like that. There’s not too much physics, and a lot of it is just graphs and the like, so make sure you know how to read them correctly. Finally, the people setting the test seem to like dragging chemistry into everything, so it’s probably a bad idea to just concentrate on biology alone.

I found the non-science sections pretty straightforward. One is just basic comprehension, the other is just persuasive writing, as far as I remember.

Hope this helps; good luck with the exam.
