Joe Biden

I’m delighted with Obama picking Biden as his running mate. Even though he was never really given a fair shake in the Democratic primary, Biden was one of the most assured of all the candidates in the debates, and certainly the wittiest. Until he became a VP candidate I had thought him a likely Secretary of State in a Democratic administration, but the McCain camp’s sustained negative campaign in recent weeks obviously added a new lustre to his brawling credentials, given Obama’s apparent reluctance to return fire himself. The only other somewhat likely ‘attack dog’ veep pick, Hillary Clinton, was probably never seriously in contention for the post since Biden brings far more to the table in terms of experience (especially in foreign relations), has lower negative ratings, and also offers the possibility of gaining greater traction with the working class/Catholic/Irish demographics that Obama has yet to nail down. Biden has the further advantage of not being married to Bill Clinton.

Here he is in his element, talking about foreign affairs, slamming an opponent and being funny all at the same time. The expression on his face at the end of the clip is priceless.
