Perfect

(For those not following the presidential race too closely, the McCain camp has spent the last week throwing tons of muck and telling outright lies about Obama, with the result that many on the left are getting quite wound up and demanding that Barack counter-punch in a big way. However, other, generally more considered voices on the left are suggesting that the Obama campaign stick to its message of post-partisanship and change in DC, and let McCain drive his low-road express straight into the ditch. He’s already taken it into the gutter…)

I don’t know… I find it quite worrying that Palin seems to have picked up disaffected Hillary supporters, despite her stance on every issue being the exact opposite of Hillarys. McCain’s “Vote for me, my VP has ovaries!” line has apparent succeeded in some cases, which I find quite worrying.

Not to disagree with the “more considered voices”, but the polls tell a different tale. Obama is trailing McCain without taking into account the Republican Election Machine which always succeeds at getting out the vote, and disenfranchising potential Obama voters. When you take the Bradley Effect into account, things are looking grim for our Champion of Change…

Perhaps, but if he goes negative then he’ll tarnish his image as a new kind of politician.

I think the Palin bounce will prove to be short lived too. Biden’s going to mop the floor with her at the vice presidential debate, and she already looks ridiculous after that Gibson interview.

I think the Bradley effect is dea, at least in Obama’s case. I didn’t materialise in the primaries anyway.

Finally, and most importantly, Obama’s still ahead in the electoral college map and that’s really all that matters. It will be nice if he wins the popular vote, but it’s by no means imperative, and thus nation-wide poll results don’t count for a whole lot.

Biden will wipe the floor with Palin, no doubt about it, but watch as he gets labelled a bully, or even a sexist, for putting her in her place.

Yeah, that’s definitely a danger with Biden, but so far he’s seemed marvelously restrained while out on the campaign trail.

Apart from, you know, the whole “Hillary would have been a better pick” bit.

He could have said far worse. It’s better to placate the Clinton supporters with empty sops like this now and again than ignoring them.
