Tyrannosaurus Reznor Does It Again

Frequent readers may recall this little outburst of mine from back in March, which resulted from NIN posting details of a European tour that at the time consisted entirely of festival slots. Fortunately, Trent subsequently added some arena shows to the tour and now I’m happily going to see them play in Amsterdam in July. So everything worked out well for European NIN fans after all.

Some American fans, however, are now reeling at the news that Nine Inch Nails will not be closing shows on weekdays during the US leg of the tour, even though this is quite possibly going to be the band’s final tour. Instead, the other major act on the tour, Jane’s Addiction, will play last on these nights, with NIN closing shows at weekends.

Now I’ve nothing against Jane’s Addiction, but if I was an American Nine Inch Nails fan and I bought a ticket to see Nine Inch Nails, then I’d be a bit disappointed if it was later announced that Jane’s would be closing the show. Also, while I’ve no way of knowing this for sure, I strongly suspect that most of the tour tickets sold so far have been bought by NIN fans, and judging by some of comments in the thread I linked to above, Jane’s will find themselves playing to more than a few half-empty venues on the nights when they headline.

The good news for European fans who just want to see NIN play NIN shows is that Jane’s have so far only been confirmed for two UK dates on the entire European tour, so here’s hoping that when I see the band in Amsterdam (on a Wednesday) they’ll be last on the stage, condensing 20 years of musical awesome into what I fully hope, nay expect, to be the best two hours of my life.

Update: Some fans on the nin.com forum kicked up such a big stink about the Chicago date that Trent himself responded directly to them:

Chicago will get an even longer than usual set so QUIT YOUR FUCKING BITCHING ABOUT THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT.
