I would very much like to put something up here, but I’m afraid that it could fuck everything up, so I won’t.

…

Looking back on it, blogging here has been a mixed bag. In the early days I posted reactionary political opinions which I’m thoroughly ashamed of now, but thankfully they were mostly washed away when I moved to my own domain. On the plus side, I did meet a very good friend through my early forays into the blogosphere; he’s probably the nicest admiring internet-stalker you could ever hope to encounter.

Recently I haven’t wrote a damn thing however. The only people who read this are friends or people lost in the Google-vortex. There’s nothing of value on this spot, I’m just another new-media vandal clogging up the intertubes with my bullshit half-assed opinions of stuff I know nothing about. This is no way for a man to spend his time. I expect that the only interesting things I ever post here are the kind of things that a sensible person would shy away from posting, and for that reason I hereby announce that cianboland.com is going on indefinite hiatus, effective immediately. Go rot your brain somewhere else.

That time, many hours ago, when I should have gone to bed. Instead I stayed up, watched rubbish, ate garbage, and then sat at my laptop, riding the web like a true idiot internaut. I didn’t even have anything to do, and I was in fact rather tired, but I still sat here like a fool, and now it’s morning. Splendid.

I’m sorry I don’t feed you much anymore, dear blog. I don’t know what’s come over me. It seems like we haven’t spent any quality time together since I finished my exams, and while it’s true that I’ve been preoccupied with other matters, that doesn’t feel like the whole story. It’s almost as if I stopped giving you attention as soon as I had nothing much left to procrastinate about.

Futhermore, it appears that the more I read blogs, the less I blog myself. There’s only so much time one can spend reading Sullivan, Douthat, Yglesias et al over at TheAtlantic.com before he starts to regard his own musings as distinctly amateurish and unsophisticated. Hence the surfeit of YouTube videos and pictures.

To put things in a nutshell Mr Blog, your future content/structure and, dare I say, very existence are at this point rather uncertain. Much depends on what I end up doing next year. If I find myself studying medicine, you will probably end your days (before my hold on the domain expires in 2012) as little more than an outlet for my frustrations and, potentially, a vehicle for ill-conceived campaigns of revenge, relying on a middling Google page rank. If I end up doing politics, you’ll probably serve much the same purpose, with a little extra rudimentary, knee-jerk political commentary thrown in. Either way, your prospects suck pretty damn hard.

Night.

Ross Douthat is, like Andrew Sullivan, an Atlantic writer and blogger. He’s a thoughtful conservative who writes very well and eschews the hysterics so typical of the political blogosphere. Given my liberal inclinations, reading his posts is generally a bracing experience, and frequently causes me to look at issues in a slightly altered light.

For instance, here is his take on the Democratic presidential debate last week that was roundly condemned in Obama-friendly quarters as a putrid mixture of pro-Clinton shilling and Republican water-carrying. Essentially, he makes the case that probing into a candidate’s quirks, past personal indiscretions, and the company they keep, is not irrelevant, and he makes his case very well, as usual.

I mean, it’s never the most happening spot in the blogosphere, but it’s been very flat for the past week.
